How do I keep my jewelry looking brand new? This is a question my customers ask me at every single trunk show.
I know the traditional way to store jewelry is to keep it in the beautiful jewelry box passed down to you through the generations. Here is a mix of advice from me and from a great article in the latest People Style Watch and it is advice that I would love to forward onto you.
Store each piece separately
Don't shoot the messenger but gemstones can scratch silver and gold, and chains can tangle. Try putting each item in its own silk or cotton pouch. You can also be a little less fancy and store individual pieces in a ziploc bag. If it's good enough for Tiffany's then it's good enough for me!
Clean it Carefully
Gently scrub gemstones with a toothbrush, using mild soap and water. Lightly buff metals with a polishing cloth. I really love to use a fabulous product called Haggerty's which I found at a bargain from Winners. This product is located with the kitchen utensils as this is the traditional use. For only $6 you can buy this polishing cloth to keep your important pieces of all metal types and gemstones clean.
Last on, First off!
Ladies, it just doesn't matter if it's gold and diamonds, it won't look it's best over time if you're wearing your pieces in the shower/hot tub/pool, etc on a regular basis. Your jewels should be the last items you put on in the morning after you've moisturized, sprayed your hairspray, and accented your natural scent with perfume. These things alone are enough to change your personal chemical makeup and can be damaging to your jewels. Now I'm not suggesting that you go scent free/peanut free/shell fish free like our local elementary school, just be mindful and take care of your pretty bling.
Traveling?
This has become my favourite bag to store my jewels while I'm traveling, and a few extras when necessary. I NEED this bag when I'm on the move because really, a girl needs options and I never know what mood I'll be in that day. For $98 this bag has all the compartments for statement necklace, chunky bracelets, ring rolls, and delicate earrings that you could ever need. Love, love, love!
Need More Advice on how to Display and Store your Jewels?
I found this cute video on You Tube with some creative ideas to keep your jewels in check. Another great resource is Winners. I have purchased some of the great earring and necklace trees that many of you have asked me about for less than $10. I also love some of the funky bust forms that they have in store. Great on top of your dresser and creates some quirky interest in your boudoir!
Happy Sorting!!

Stella & Dot: Spring 2012 Collection Teaser
LOVING the Urban Splendor Collection. I'll be in Dallas this weekend for the launch of this collection, January 8th. Can't wait!
Spring 2012 Fashion Trends
Wondering what the Spring 2012 trends are this year? According to http://www.ahautemess.ca/, New York Fashion week showed lots of colour (especially neon), bold prints (especially all worn together), head-to-toe white (great for moms! ha), and tribal inspired looks.
You can also check out the 20 best looks from New York courtesy of Lou Lou Magazine http://en.louloumagazine.com/ fashion/street-style-fashion/ the...-20-best-looks-from-new-york-f ashion-week/ ?gclid=CMb4uO6vtK0CFQhjhwod8Dbr 8w.
I'm quite drawn to this look, perhaps it is because it reminds me of my parents couch in our rec room. Yes, I am a 70's child. Perhaps it could be paired with one of these limited edition pieces from the Stella & Dot Style Society or a piece from our upcoming Spring release on January 8th? How would you wear it?
So you can go with the trends or you can pull from your existing wardrobe and add some dimension with some great accessories. What I love about this is that accessories don't look dated the way most clothes do after a while. (Remember acid wash jeans?) You can wear the same necklace or bag or heels year after year and they almost always endure. But if you are looking for that one-of-a kind statement piece that could be featured in Vogue magazine, then you'll want to check this out: http://www.stelladot.com/williams and view our Design Studio for monthly releases of limited edition pieces.
In any case, style is personal. I'm really enjoying my hobby turned career with Stella & Dot because it has awakened my youthful ambition of being involved with fashion professionally. Three and a half years later, I am making an incredible income while enjoying the flexibility of time. I haven't regretted it for one second, it has been one of the GREATEST gifts in my life, and I'm able to be my own boss, around my family's schedule and earn a professional income ...based on the amount of hours I want to work each week. Great sign up special right now...$199 and you'll earn $450 in FREE jewels! Friend to Friend..kind of a no brainer..a trip to Costco will cost you more and I'll coach and mentor you on how to launch! You'll earn your investment back after one trunk show...truly, LOW risk, with HUGE rewards if you love it!! Message me to learn more or get started today!

I started with Stella & Dot in June 2008 as a hobbyist. I moved from a different province and didn't know anybody so I decided that this could be a great outlet for me to meet other women, friends for my children, and own a business without risk. The latter has always been a dream that I didn't think I could afford in reality. Now I earn nearly six figures, have an incredible network of friends that I work with and style at trunk shows, and I have the opportunity to volunteer every day at my daughters school. We can afford to take a vacation every year without going into debt, and the most important part is.....for the first time in my life, I believe in myself and my abilities!! I am a confident woman moving through life with zest and ambition. A far cry from where I was 4 years ago!

I love this quote:
Stop thinking you’re not ready. – Nobody ever feels 100% ready when an opportunity arises. Because most great opportunities in life force us to grow beyond our comfort zones, which means we won’t feel totally comfortable at first.
